Cropped. It got much closer, but was so fast I needed the distance to track it in the viewfinder.

SO... something is happening to me... I'm liking pictures of bugs, but only insects... dragon flies are actually quite cute! They just make me nervous when they are flying around close to me! GREAT crop and "action" shot, btw!

Thanks! Dragonflies are gorgeous! (Their English name is ugly, doesn't do them justice)
Anyway, this one would definitely have made you nervous. It kept buzzing back and forth, and came as close as a foot or two. Never captured that though, I am not quick enough:-)

Great photo! I chased one of these for an hour in the park. "Oh look at the crazy man running around in circles with a camera to his head!" I'm sure that's what they were saying about me. Thanks! I was lucky to do my chasing at a little mountain lake (with few people around), and stationary (they did the darting around in circles for me:-) Did you get a good shot in the end?
